MDMK chief Vaiko to move out of NDA, decision on Monday

NEW DELHI: Madumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief Vaiko is all set to exit NDA, a decision that could be taken as early as Monday, when his party’s district level secretaries meet.

Sources close to Vaiko confirmed that the news. The party had rejoined the alliance just before the 2014 general elections. “This has been in the works for sometime, ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapakse to his swearing in,” said a source close to Vaiko. Later when Modi greeted Rajapakse at the Saarc meet in Kathmandu, Vaiko had released an unambiguous statement condemning the proximity of the two leaders.

“I am terribly pained at the attitude of my Prime Minister. It’s atrocious to commend the racist President who has killed several Tamils. And the PM of India is wishing him. I am ashamed of it. I condemn it,” he said. He also celebrated on November 26th the birth anniversary of LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhakaran, convicted for former PM Rajiv Gandhi’s murder.
