MDMK chief Vaiko appeals to Centre to ensure net neutrality

CHENNAI: MDMK chief Vaiko today urged the Centre to ensure net neutrality so that people could continue to access Internet as per their choice.

Net neutrality implies equal treatment be accorded to all Internet traffic and no priority should be given to any person or entity based on payment, he said in a statement here.

"It is upto the customer to decide which websites he or she needs to access," Vaiko said.

He expressed concern that if the speed of accessing websites was increased to those companies who pay a fee to telecom companies then "the rights of people using the Internet according to their requirements may be snatched".

"Internet is a Nation's property. The Central government allows telecom companies to provide Internet facility. Such companies which provide this service try to control the Internet. A situation has emerged in harming net neutrality",he said.
