CHANDIGARH: The Marxist Communist Party of India (United) on Wednesday alleged that the Punjab government had handed over "prime land" to Reliance Industries Ltd at "throw away" prices and demanded that the deal be scrapped.

Prem Singh Bhangu and Chander Shekar, members of the party's preparatory committee, claimed that the policy of acquiring land under Land Acquisition Act at throwaway prices and then handing it over to industrial houses would prove detrimental to the state.

In a statement, they said that industrial houses should be asked to purchase land in the open market through direct deals with farmers without any mediation by the government.
