NEW DELHI: In a New Year gift to the homeless, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) today did away with the entry fee for using night shelters in the capital for next two "winter" months.

Announcing this, Mayor Arti Mehra said the civic body has decided to exempt users from entry fee during the period from January one to February 28.

"The winter season is at its peak. A large number of homeless people spend nights at night shelters. It has, therefore, been decided to relieve them of financial burden," she said.

The MCD used to charge Rs six from people for using blanket and other facilities at the shelter.
