MCD asks govt to issue fresh notification on desealing

NEW DELHI: The MCD on Wednesday asked the government to issue a fresh notification for desealing all properties in the capital even as it said it would initiate the process as the Centre's notification in this regard got a conditional approval.
At a meeting of the MCD Standing Committee, its Chairman Vijender Gupta said the civic body has started verifying the applications for desealing and the process will be carried out soon after "genuine" applicants were identified.
"We are verifying the desealing applications received by the MCD after the Supreme Court directions in the matter and the desealing will be carried out as soon as we identify the genuine applicants," Gupta said.
He said the MCD has received around 700 applications for desealing, the investigation for which is being undertaken.
MCD Leader of House Subhash Arya demanded a similar notification for all the properties sealed under different categories and that too without any temporary extension, so that the common people get relief.
However, Opposition Leader Jaikishen Sharma alleged that the BJP-ruled MCD was deliberately delaying desealing.

"There is a clear directive from the Centre but the BJP is incapable of implementing it," he said. The Union Urban Development Ministry has on January 30 directed local authorities to deseal premises protected under the Delhi Laws Special Provisions Act of 2007.
The Supreme Court today allowed desealing on the condition that owners give an undertaking to abide by its final order on the issue of legality of the Centre's January 30 notification.
