MCA student ends life, parents allege ragging
Second-year MCA student committed suicide after he was allegedly ragged by his seniors in college. The body of D Devender Kumar was found on railway tracks at Dharmaram in Geesukonda mandal of Warangal district.
The deceased, a native of Choppadandi village in Karimnagar district, was a student of Vasavi engineering college at Ibrahimbagh in Hyderabad.
A suicide note found from Kumar's pocket said that he was taking the extreme step as he was finding it difficult to put up with the ragging by his seniors, deputy superintendent of police, Warangal, Venkateshwar Rao said.
The angry parents - Sankaraiah and Laxmi - alleged that their son took the extreme step as he was harassed by his seniors in the college. "Though we had lodged complaints with the college many times, the management has failed to take any action against the erring students," Sankaraiah said.
A relative of the family alleged that even after completing the first year, the seniors did not leave Devender and continued ragging him, forcing him to resort to extreme step in frustration.
It is learnt that Devender came to the Warangal railway station late on Sunday evening. "He purchased a platform ticket and started walking towards Dharmaram on railway tracks when a train mowed him down," a source said.
The parents demanded action against the Vasavi College management for their indifferent attitude in curbing ragging which, they said, led to their son's death. The parents and relatives rushed to MGM Hospital here on Monday where an autopsy was performed on Devender's body.
