Mayawati govt to draft state BPL list afresh
The fresh exercise would be conducted jointly by a joint team of the state departments of rural development, revenue, food and civil supplies.
Addressing a press conference here, Ms Maywati cited a large number of discrepancies found in the BPL list of families, with “actually poor people” being denied benefits of welfare schemes, as the reason behind the move. The chief minister said while large number of eligible families were left out many in the Bpl list, a score of ineligible families were included by vested interests.
The fresh exercise would be conducted jointly by a joint team of the state departments of rural development, revenue, food and civil supplies. In rural areas, district magistrates would constitute a team of village-level officers and surveys would be conducted at the Gram Sabha level after ensuring proper publicity among the masses, Ms Mayawati said, adding that these surveys would be completed in three months time to complete the fresh list.
The BSP leader also announced the state cabinet’s decision to launch the Kanshi Ram Urban Integrated Development Scheme on October 9, to mark the first death anniversary of the late Dalit leader, under which basic civic amenities will be provied those living in urban areas.
The chief minister said one-fourth of the population in the state lived in urban areas yet nearly 40% of the urban population lacked basic civic amenities. She said the Kanshi Ram UID schemes would cover all Nagar Nigam, Nagar Palikas and Nagar Panchayat areas in a phased manner.
She said under the scheme Rs 2,500 crore have been earmarked for this year alone to provide housing, clean drinking water, sewer, drainage, road, cleanliness, health, employment, electrification etc in urban areas. A total of Rs 15,000 crore would be spent under the scheme in five years time.
