Mayawati govt suspends 3,964 more policemen

Six more senior IPS officers were suspended and the appointment of 3,964 police and PAC constables cancelled with the state government taking further action in the ongoing probe against the irregularities in the police recruitment drive of 2005-06.

LUCKNOW: Six more senior IPS officers were suspended and the appointment of 3,964 police and PAC constables cancelled with the state government taking further action in the ongoing probe against the irregularities in the police recruitment drive of 2005-06.

Addressing a press conference Principal Secretary Home, JN Chamber said that the government has decided to cancell the appointment of 3,964 constables who were appointed through 10 selection boards after the enquiry report revealed that large scale irregularities were committed in their recruitment.

Ten senior IPS officers who headed these selection boards were also found guilty and six of them — IGs Ramenndra Vikram Singh and Ashok Kumar and SPs Mukesh Shukla, BR Meena, VS Meena, and Neelambja Chaudhary — have been suspended. The remaining four DIGs BB Bakshi, Daljit Singh Chowdhry, SK Mathur, and Akhilesh Mehrotra are already under suspension for their role in the recruitment drive.

Fresh charges have been filed against them. The state governmnet had constituted an enquiry headed by ADG Shailjakant Mishra into the alleged irregularities in the recruitment drive of 22,000 police and PAC constables through 55 selection boards during the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav government.

Earlier, the government had suspended 10 IPS officers and reccomended suspension against two IPS officers on central deputation and cancelled appointement of 6504 constables on September 11 after it recieved the enquiry committe report against 14 selection boards. The fresh action follows after the enquiry committe submitted its report on 11 more selection boards.

The selection board for Saharanpur was given a clean chit though some slight discrepancies were discovered. An adverse entry has been made in the service records of DIG Prashant Kumar who headed the Saharanpur Board.

More action is likely in the coming weeks with the enquiry report against some more selection baords yet to be submitted before the government.
