NEW DELHI: BSP chief Mayawati favoured bringing in a constitutional amendment to annul a Supreme Court order against reservation for faculty in superspeciality section in AIIMS instead of filing a review petition as it would lead to considerable delays.

"The Centre should bring a constitutional amendment to put an early end to this dispute and provide quick relief to the weaker section as filing a review petition could lead to delays of seven to eight years," she told reporters outside Parliament to a question in this regard.

Amid demands from various parties, the government in Lok Sabha today said that it will consider bringing a constitutional amendment in the current session of Parliament to annul the Supreme Court order against reservation for faculty in AIIMS.

Maywati said the issue along with the Constitution (117th Amendment) Bill should be taken up for discussion simultaneously in Lok Sabha.

The Constitution amendment bill providing for quota in promotions for SCs and STs in government jobs has already been passed by Rajya Sabha.
