Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati launched a frontal attack on the opposition Samajwadi Party, terming its regime as 'one of scams' and defended her government's decision to ban student union polls, implement vat, construct parks and statues o...
Making a reply on the motion of thanks on the Governor's address to the joint sitting of the legislature in the Vidhan Sabha, Mayawati targetted the SP and its supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and also defended the decision to refer the police/PAC recruitment scandal and the CD cases against BJP leaders to the CBI.
Yadav was not present in the house during the Chief Minister's speech.
Alleging that UP had become a 'safe haven' for terrorists during the previous SP regime, Mayawati referred to terrorist attacks in Ayodhya and Varanasi.
She lauded the state Chief Secretary, DGP and other senior officials saying that they were 'honest' and never bowed to any pressure.
Mayawati said that the government had handed over the CD case and the police/PAC recruitment scam to the CBI as it did not want to invite accusations of a political vendetta.
She said that the Government had banned student union polls as it was hampering academic activities. A high level committee had been formed and any decision about holding the polls would be taken only after its report was submitted and studied.
