Mayawati attacks Congress again
UP chief minister Mayawati has alleged the Congress was conspiring to send her to jail by getting her implicated in a false case and was also ignoring her security concerns.
“If anything happens to my life, my party workers should lawfully avenge my killing. And if they pack me off to jail, it will only work to our political advantage and will help augment our political support base,” Mayawati told a Sarvajan Samaj Bhaichara Banao Maha Sammelan here on Wednesday.
Recalling how the NDA government had earlier ‘tried to implicate her’ in the Taj corridor case, the fiery Dalit leader accused the Congress of misusing government machinery to reopen old cases.
“I had got relief from the income-tax department in disproportionate assets cases, but the Congress is now building pressure to enmesh me in legal troubles. But I am not one who will succumb to pressure. I am neither an opportunist like other Dalit leaders — read Ramvilas Paswan — nor I am a saleable commodity,“ she said and added her cadre will not spare the Congress if it dared to ‘touch her’.
The UP CM claimed the Centre was ignoring her security needs even though she had repeatedly asked the Centre to address her security concerns. “My angered party workers and supporters will surely react if anything untoward happened to me,” she said.
In her hour-long speech, Mayawati did not spare the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government, either, which she alleged was working on a sinister design to divide the Dalit community. “The Nitish government was trying to classify the Dalit community into Mahadalits and Dalit in order to create a division within the Dalit community for weakening them.”
Mayawati blamed the Congress government for not initiating action against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray after MNS activists committed violence against migrants of eastern UP and Bihar.
