LUCKNOW: Playing the reservation card, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Friday announced that private sector firms executing projects for the state government will have job quotas, a decision the BSP supremo claimed was the first of its kind in the country.

A decision to provide reservations for projects undertaken a public-private partnership was discussed at a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Mayawati told reporters. The state government’s decision ensures reservation in all outsourcing firms and individual companies that carry out jobs for the government and semi-government departments and agencies.

The decision was taken to ensure all-round development of all sections of the society, the chief minister added. Mayawati said her government had on December 24 last decided to implement reservation norms for private sector firms carrying out projects in association with the government under public-private partnership formula.

Earlier on August 10 last, the government had directed all private organisations and industries, which got heavy subsidy from the state government, to implement reservation norms voluntarily.
