BSP supremo Mayawati is trying to regain her political relevance in UP and, for that, she has bet on the Brahmins, once again. By reaching out to the Brahmins, the BSP aims at reviving the Brahmin, Dalit and Muslim combination which BSP enjoyed in 2007.

The party is starting its Brahmin Sammelans from Ayodhya on July 23. It also plans to organise Brahmin Sammelans in each of the 75 districts in 10 phases. In the first phase, the party will organise such meetings in six districts starting from Ayodhya. According to Mayawati, Ayodhya has been chosen keeping in mind the religious importance it holds for Brahmins.

“The BJP misled Brahmins and they voted the BJP to power in the 2017 assembly elections. However, the community is now regretting their decision,” Mayawati said in a statement on Sunday. Mayawati is hopeful that Brahmins will once again support the BSP and help it form the government in the state.

“I want to tell the Brahmin community that they have tried Congress in the past and BJP. It is the right time to denounce the BJP and join the BSP,” Mayawati said.

Mayawati praised the Dalits by saying that despite all efforts by the BJP, the community voted for the BSP in large numbers. “Due to their votes, BSP, despite getting fewer seats (19), had more vote percentage (22.23%) than the SP (21.82%),” she added.
