KOLKATA: Former Union minister Matang Sinh, who was arrested by the CBI in connection with the Saradha scam, failed to appear before the Alipore court today due to illness.

Sinh, who was discharged from the state-run SSKM hospital and sent to jail custody yesterday, was to appear before the court today as he was remanded in jail custody on "paper production" by the CBI, a day after his arrest on February 1.

Soon after his arrest, he was sent to hospital as he complained of stomach pain.

He was sent to jail custody for 13 days. The medical super of the Alipore Correctional Home wrote to the court officials that Sinh would not be able to appear today as he was not medically fit.

The future date of his appearance is yet to be decided.
