SINGUR: Massive security has been deployed around the Tata Motors car plant here in the wake of Trinamool Congress' indefinite dharna from today.

Over 2,000 police personnel have been deployed around the area. The gate of the Tata Motors unit is barricaded with policemen on watch towers and water cannons kept ready.

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to address a meeting today near the gate of the plant demanding return of 400 acres to farmers who were "unwilling" to part with their land.

The meeting would be attended by SP leader Amar Singh and leaders of TC allies, including Socialist Unity Centre of India and Somen Mitra-led Pragatisil Indira Congress.

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has appealed to Trinamool Congress to ensure that the dharna remain peaceful and called for more talks on the issue to resolve the impasse.

The TC chief has assured that the agitation will be peaceful.
