CHENNAI: The DMK on Sunday decided to withdraw IT and communication minister Dayanidhi Maran from the Union cabinet for violating party discipline and bringing defame to it.

A resolution adopted by the administrative committee asked the party president M Karunanidhi and general secretary K Anbazhagan to take immediate and appropriate steps for this.

The resolution also asked the party leadership to issue a show cause notice to Mr Maran for his ‘recent activities’ and violation of party discipline. After getting his explanation, a decision on his continuance in the party, including its primary membership, would be taken.

Chief minister Karunanidhi presided over the meeting after which the resolution was released by a party functionary. The usual press briefing after such meetings was dispensed with.
