Maoists resort to road blockades in Orissa

MALKANGIRI: Maoists have resorted to road blockade at several places of Orissa's Malkangiri district in a bid to enforce a bandh alleging police excesses.

Banners and posters put up by the ultras bearing the name of CPI (Maoist) were found since yesterday at some places including, the block office of Korkonda, police said.

The banners said a bandh was being observed from May 21 to 24 in the naxal-hit district seeking a halt to combing operations by the security forces.

The posters alleged that innocent tribals were being killed in the name of 'joint operation against Maoists by Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Chhatisgarh police.'

Bus services and vehicular traffic were badly hit as the naxals blocked the state Highway 45 at several places by digging roads and keeping boulders on the road.

The affected roads are Malkangiri-Kalimela, Motu-MV 79, Kalimela-Kongurkond and several other places.
