NEW DELHI: Investigations into the May 28 Jnaneshwari Express derailment have shown that the railway track was damaged by a front organisation of Maoists, Home Minister P Chidambaram informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

He said during Question Hour that Police Santras Birodhi Jnansadharaner Committee (PSBJC), a front organisation of Maoists, was involved in damaging the railway track in in the West Midnapore district of West Bengal, thereby causing the accident.

"The CBI has arrested 12 persons so far in this case," Chidambaram said.

He admitted there have been a "few major naxal attacks" in the recent past including the Jnaneshwari Express derailment, which is being probed by CBI.
