Maoists attack private vehicle in AP; six tribals injured

Six tribals were injured on Monday when Maoists opened fire on them in a forest area in Vishakapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh, police said.

HYDERABAD: Six tribals were injured on Monday when Maoists opened fire on them in a forest area in Vishakapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh, police said.

The incident occured around noon in R V Puram forest area of G K Veedhi mandal on the Andhra-Orrisa border when a group of ultras fired on a private vehicle suspecting that it was carrying police personnel, a senior police officer told media.

After opening fire, the Maoists immediately fled away into the forest area. The tribals, who received bullet injuries have been admitted to a government hospital in Chintapalli mandal. They are now being shifted to KGM hospital at Visakhapatnam, he said.

Additional security personnel have been rushed to the spot for combing operations, the police officer added.
