Ahmedabad: On his second day in Gujarat, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi openly addressed the divisions within the state Congress, hinting at a major overhaul. Speaking to party workers in Ahmedabad, Gandhi accused a faction of Congress leaders and workers of colluding with the BJP, creating a divide within the party. He stated, "There are two types of people in Gujarat Congress. One stands with the people, fights for them, and carries the ideology of Congress. The other is disconnected, does not respect the people, and is aligned with BJP."

Gandhi emphasised the need to clearly differentiate between these two groups, stating that without doing so, the people of Gujarat would not trust the Congress. He added, "If we need to take strong action and expel those working for the BJP from within, then we should."

Admitting that the opposition had failed to offer a viable alternative, Gandhi acknowledged that the Gujarat Congress has struggled to show the way forward for the state. He said, "We have not fulfilled the expectations of the people of Gujarat. We need to admit this openly."

Gandhi compared the Congress to a racehorse meant for a wedding procession, stressing that the party must be ready to show leadership and act decisively. He further urged workers to engage with the people, drawing inspiration from the success of the Bharat Jodo Yatra in reconnecting the party with the masses.

With a 40% voter base still intact in Gujarat, Gandhi underscored the importance of increasing the party's share by just 5% to become a competitive force, but stressed this would only happen after a proper "sieving" of party members.
