PANAJI: Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has submitted his resignation as a member of Goa Legislative Assembly from the Panaji constituency following his election to Rajya Sabha from Lucknow.

Assembly Speaker Rajendra Arlekar confirmed today that he had received Parrikar's resignation, which will be effective from tomorrow.

He said that Parrikar, who was here on November 20 to attend the inauguration of International Film Festival of India, tendered his resignation requesting that it should be effective from November 25.

Parrikar resigned as the Chief Minister earlier this month after BJP decided to elevate him to the union cabinet.

He had led the party to a decisive victory in Goa in 2012 Assembly polls.
