Manmohan Singh raises Hafiz Saeed issue with Zardari

Hafiz Saeed, the alleged mastermind of the Mumbai terror attacks, was discussed in the meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday.

NEW DELHI: Hafiz Saeed, the alleged mastermind of the Mumbai terror attacks, was discussed in the meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday.

Briefing media on the one-on-one talks, foreign secretary Ranjan Mathai said the two leaders discussed the problem of terrorism.

Manmohan Singh told Zardari that it was imperative to bring perpetrators of Mumbai attack to justice and prevent activities against India from Pakistan soil.

The Prime Minister brought up the developments on JuD chief Hafiz Saeed during his talks with President Zardari.

Zardari responded by assuring that the Hafiz Saeed needs to be discussed at length.

The meeting of the home secretaries of the two countries to be held shortly will discuss the issue of Hafiz Saeed.

The foreign secretary said that both leaders also agreed on the need to tap trade potential.
