Manmohan Singh credits Jawarharlal Nehru for the “idea of mixed economy”
NEW DELHI: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday launched an indirect attack on the Modi government and RSS by alleging there were attempts to erase Jawarharlal Nehru and his ideals from history and asserted “the need to thwart such attempts urgently”.

Crediting Nehru for the “idea of mixed economy”, ex-PM Manmohan Singh said the coexistence of public and private partnership was the outcome of Nehru’s vision and Nehru saw socialism not “merely as an economic rigid doctrine but as a way of life”. Gandhi said, “Nehru is an ancient idea but he is also a part of living India. His ideas and politics are very much present here today.” Singh said, “Nehru’s world view is relevant in every corner of the globe today. This conference is not just a tribute to Pandit Nehru, it is a reminder of relevance of his world view.”
