Manmohan medically fit for another stint as PM

MUMBAI: Almost three months after undergoing a coronary bypass surgery, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said his doctors have declared him fit for the top post again.

"I have got a clean bill of good health from my doctors. I just had a meeting with them a few minutes ago and there is no need to worry," Singh told reporters here when asked if his health would affect his functioning as Prime Minister, in case the UPA is voted to power.

A team of five doctors from the Asian Heart Institute in suburban Bandra Kurla, who had performed the surgery, conducted the over-half-an-hour check up on the Prime Minister and his condition was found to be stable, sources said.

The Prime Minister, who was in the city today, addressed a select gathering of industrialists and representatives of the entertainment industry at a suburban five star hotel.

Singh had undergone a coronary bypass surgery on January 24 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the national capital and was discharged on February 1.

He returned to office five weeks after the surgery.
