Manipur Police recover 1,057 arms from valley, 138 from hill

The Manipur Police has said that it has so far recovered 1,195 looted arms - 1,057 from the valley districts and 138 from the hill districts - from different parts of the state. Thousands of ammunition were also recovered.

The Manipur Police has said that it has so far recovered 1,195 looted arms - 1,057 from the valley districts and 138 from the hill districts - from different parts of the state. Thousands of ammunition were also recovered.

"Security forces have been continuously raiding the hill and valley areas to recover the looted arms and ammunition," the police said in a statement.

Following multiple operations launched by security forces, an 'armed insurgent' was injured and apprehended. Army's Spear Corps said on Twitter: "Multiple operations were launched in the aftermath of an incident at Kwakta #Bishnupur in the wee hours... In the ensuing firefight, one armed insurgent of KIA (non-SoO Group) sustained gunshot wound and was apprehended while others managed to escape... Operation in progress and further details will follow."

Meanwhile, the Union home ministry has deployed 10 additional companies of the central armed police force in Manipur. A senior police officer said 10 companies (around 900 personnel and some officers) of CAPF - CRPF, BSF, ITBP and SSB - arrived here on Saturday night, and they would be deployed in different districts.

The ethnic clashes broke out in Manipur on May 3, and have been continuing for the last three months, claiming over 160 lives.
