Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the Manipur Statehood Day celebrations in Imphal, Biren asserted that all districts of Manipur are an integral part of the state.
Kuki bodies are demanding separate administrative units for the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities in the ethnic violence infested Manipur.
Biren said, “Let there be peace and prosperity in Manipur.”
A Kuki-Zo organisation has called for a ban on the Meitei Mayek script subject in both government and private schools in Moreh, a border town near Myanmar, effective from the upcoming 2025-26 academic year, Biren said, “There are so many organisations. We need to take seriously only those organisations which are recognised by the government, known by the government. We don’t care. State is governed by the government, not by any individual.”
He added, “All communities must try to bring peace.”
The ethnic violence between the non-tribals Meiteis and tribal Kuki-Zo broke out in the northeastern state on May 3 2023 after a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised in the hill districts to protest the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
