Manipur Elections 2017: After electoral drubbing, Irom Sharmila to quit politics, go on solitude
GUWAHATI: With her party being routed activist turned politician, Irom Sharmila said she will quit politics and go on solitude.

Last year Sharmila broke her 16 year long fast unto death demanding repeal of repealing the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA)and launched political outfit Peoples’ Resurgence and Justice Alliance (PRJA). Her party contested three seats and was defeated in all the seats.

Sharmila fought against Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi Singh in Thoubal and managed to get just 90 votes. Singh won the seat and got 18,649 votes.

Sharmila declared, “People did not believe me. I will quit politics and go on month long solitude to Kerala.”

She said she is not regretting for joining politics. “ I don’t think my decision of joining politics was wrong decision.”

PRJA had taken to crowd funding to fight the Manipur polls.
