Manipur Congress leader files disqualification petitions against five JD(U) MLAs who joined BJP

The five JD(U) MLAs who recently joined BJP are Kh. Joykishan, N. Sanate, Md Achab Uddin, L M Khaute, and Thangjam Arunkumar. BJP's strength has increased to 37 in the state assembly with these joining.

Hareshwar Goshwami, Vice President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday filed disqualification petitions against five JD(U) MLAs who recently joined BJP in Speaker’s Tribunal.

The counsel for the petitioner, Advocate Ningombam Bupenda Meitei, in all the five disqualification petitions against the five MLAs, was present during the filing of the disqualification petitions at Manipur Assembly.

The five JD(U) MLAs who recently joined BJP are Kh. Joykishan, N. Sanate, Md Achab Uddin, L M Khaute, and Thangjam Arunkumar.


BJP's strength has increased to 37 in the state assembly with these joining.

JD (U) had won six seats in the assembly polls early this year wrested 32 seats in the 60-member assembly. BJP’s erstwhile ally National People’s Party secured seven seats while Janata Dal (United) won six seats, the Congress and the Naga People Front bagged five seats each, Kuki People's Alliance (KPA), a newly floated tribal based party, managed two seats and three Independent candidates also got elected to the assembly.

The NPF, JD (U) and an independent member had announced to support the BJP government soon after the polls. Even the KPA pledged support to the BJP led government.
