Man killed in exchange of fire with police inside bus

An unidentified person was killed today in an exchange of fire with the police in a bus in suburban Kurla, after he is suspected to have tried taking hostage the public transport, police said.

MUMBAI: An unidentified person was killed today in an exchange of fire with the police in a bus in suburban Kurla, after he is suspected to have tried taking hostage the public transport, police said.

The incident happened around 0930 hours inside a BEST bus in the northeast suburb, they said. "It is being verified whether the person was trying to take hostage aboard the bus. He had fired at the police in 'Bail' bazar area of Kurla and was shot in retaliatory fire," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Rakesh Maria said.

The suspect, a gunman, was pronounced dead at the Rajawadi hospital in Ghatkopar, police said adding a passenger who also sustained injuries in the incident has been taken to the same hospital, where his condition is reported to be critical.
