CHENNAI: A 23-year-old man has been arrested on charges of giving life threats to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and his family through an e-mail, police said here today.

The e-mail, received yesterday morning at the state secretariat, stated that Karunanidhi declare as passed all the college students who had failed "because of a syllabus introduced by Anna University in 2001".

If he did not do so, Karunanidhi and his family members would be eliminated, the mail threatened.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the mail was allegedly sent by one Suresh Kumar from an Internet browsing centre in Tiruchirapalli.

A special team headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police - Cyber Crime, Sudhakar, rushed to the place and apprehended Kumar.

On interrogation, police found that Kumar studied in a private engineering college in Tiruchirapalli between 2001 and 2005 and did not graduate as he had to clear three subjects.
