Mamata to set up 65 all women police stations in West Bengal

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Friday that her government will set up 65 all women police stations across the state to check crime against women.

KOLKATA: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Friday that her government will set up 65 all women police stations across the state to check crime against women. "Of these proposed 65 police stations, we have already set up ten such units in the state and rests of the 55 police stations will come up soon," the chief minister said.

The chief minister was addressing a public meeting at Nagrakata in Jalpaiguri district on Friday. Earlier, she held a meeting with senior district officials of Jalpaiguri. It is learnt that the chief minister had informed the district officials that Jalpaiguri will be bifurcated soon and a new district Alipurduar will be set up.

The chief minister also told the crowd that her government had already set up 19 human rights courts and 158 fast track courts for speedy disposal of pending criminal cases.

Informed sources in the state police department said that each of these 65 all women police stations would have one inspector, eight sub-inspector and eight assistant sub-inspectors. Also each of these police stations would have thirty constables. Recruitment of women police officials have already been started to run these police stations.
