SINGUR: There were several attempts by a small group of people to rush towards the heavily-guarded boundary walls of the Tata Motors' small car plant today, but appeals by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee made them turn back.

"Don't even look at the walls of the Tata Motors factory," Banerjee said repeatedly into the microphone from her dharna 'manch' beside the car factory here.

A group of 20 to 30 people, who participated in the dharna, attempted to rush towards the boundary walls in Bosepukur area.

Security was tight along the boundary of the entire Tata Motors plant with armed police and RAF on guard, police said.

The day, however, passed off peacefully. The Trinamool Congress today launched an indefinite agitation demanding return of 400 acres of land to farmers that was acquired for the Tata Motors small car project here.
