KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said veteran actor Pran had institutionalised the role of villain in Hindi movies and his demise will create a huge void in the cine world.

"He would always be remembered and adored by film lovers for his immortal roles in Zanjeer, Amar Akbar Anthony, Madhumati, Kashmir Ki Kali, Don and a host of other films," Banerjee said in a Facebook post.

Recalling that the actor was conferred Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2013 and the Padma Bhusan in 2001, she said Pran had won hundreds of awards and citations in his illustrious career.

"May the almighty give enough strength to his family members to bear this irreparable loss. May his departed soul rest in peace," she said.

Pran passed away at a suburban hospital in Mumbai on Friday at the age of 93.
