Mamata Banerjee's provocative words adding fuel to agitation: Surya Kanta Mishra

KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's ultimatum and words will add fuel to GJM's statehood agitation, opposition leader Surya Kanta Mishra today claimed and said the responsibility of maintaining law and order lies with the state government.

He demanded that an all party meet should be convened by the state government to come out with a solution on the basis of consensus.

"The ultimatum and the kind of provocative words that the chief minister is using will only add fuel to the fire. It will worsen the situation further," Mishra told reporters here.

Mishra also took a dig at Banerjee's mention of court order on bandhs.

"I have never seen that she has so much respect for court order. It is a good sign."

"We want that an all party meet be convened by the state government to sort out a solution on the basis of consensus. We from the very beginning had said that the GTA treaty itself had many flaws in it, which needs to be addressed. But the state did not pay any heed to it," said Mishra.

Mishra also attacked the Centre saying that it can't shed off its responsibilities as GTA was the product of a tripartite agreement between the state, Center and GJM.
