Mamata Banerjee's attack against PM Narendra Modi a result of fear: BJP

KOLKATA: In a rejoinder to Mamata Banerjee's no holds barred attack against the Narendra Modi government yesterday, BJP today asserted that the West Bengal Chief Minister was scared of the party and that was why she targetted it.

Speaking to reporters at the party office here, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh said he was happy that Banerjee had started accepting BJP as the main opposition party in the event of the CPI(M)-Congress opposition alliance lying in tatters.

"We won't object if she takes us as the opposition, but we did not expect the way she attacked the BJP government in the Centre. It shows that she is scared and jealous of us because she has failed to woo any of our partymen," Ghosh said.

Banerjee was also aware that her party MPs, MLAs and councillors were accused in different cases but in BJP there was no such leader, he claimed.

Ghosh alleged that Banerjee had taken up finishing off the opposition by alluring CPI(M) and Congress leaders to join TMC.

"Even after wining 211 seats in the Assembly she is scared and thus bringing in leaders from the CPI(M) and the Congress and by doing this she is demeaning Bengal politics, Ghosh said.

Banerjee, in her speech on Martyr's day, had accused the Modi government of pushing "saffronisation" agenda and destroying federal structure and had said she will not tolerate attempts to spread communal hatred in the name of cow protection as she targeted BJP over the attack on Dalits by cow vigilantes in Gujarat.
