Mamata Banerjee warns BJP MLAs over 'Modi Chor' slogan, then raises it herself in Assembly drama
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee rebuked BJP MLAs for chanting slogans perceived as insulting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the assembly. Despite her criticism, Banerjee herself later echoed similar sentiments by shouting slogans ac...
Banerjee said, “You people are uttering what we have never dared to say and you are calling PM Modi ‘chor’. Please respect your leader’s chair.”
“Please don’t say ‘Modi Chor’. He is our Prime Minister. You are saying I respect the Prime Minister but calling him a thief. I will tell Modi ji to expel you from your party.”
“We respect him as the PM and that is why we do not call him ‘Chor’. But it is you who are saying it. Let Modi ji and the BJP leaders hear this. Are you not ashamed to call your PM a thief? Respect and preserve the dignity of the Assembly,” Banerjee said.
However, later she also shouted the slogan ‘Modi Chor and Amit Shah Chor’ and it sounded as if both BJP and Trinamool Congress were uttering the same slogan.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari too raised his voice and said, “Our leader chief whip Shankar Ghosh and MLA Bankim Ghosh have spoken to JP Nadda ji. You cannot insult the Prime Minister. Modi is a community, Modi is a surname spread across the world. It is a shame that the chief minister Mamata Banerjee said ‘Modi Chor’ inside the assembly. Rahul Gandhi has already faced the fire for saying such words.”
