West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee demanded a Supreme Court monitored judicial probe into the Morbi bridge collapse, a day after a PIL was filed in the apex court in this regard.

"A judicial commission should be constituted under the SC and the irregularities done by the agency which renovated the bridge and the problems in the tendering process must be exposed," Banerjee said.

Banerjee blamed the Gujarat government for failing to "provide proper help" to family members of the deceased, claiming "it is busy with elections".

"Why do you need to open the bridge ahead of schedule? Declaring the "incomplete" work as "complete" is a crime," Banerjee said. Stating that she was not politicising the incident, Banerjee wanted to know why central agencies like the CBI or ED did not take action against these issues and instead took action on common people.
