Mamata Banerjee to plan party's future without Mukul Roy

KOLKATA: Though CBI has discharged Mukul Roy after questioning on Friday , Mamata Banerjee has already started revamping her command chain without the party No. 2.

The rift in the Trinamool camp over Mukul became quite apparent on Friday with some eager to hear the news of his arrest. However, there were many who looked relieved after he came out of the CBI office smiling.

The core committee meeting at Mamata's residence on Saturday will turn out to be a loyalty show for Trinamool MLAs and MPs from south Bengal. Subhendu Adhikari, Mukul's rival in the party , is likely to get a bigger space in the new set-up.

The reason could be the upcoming Bongaon Lok Sabha bypoll, with some Trinamool organizers admitting that maintaining the party without “mastermind“ Mukul won't be an easy affair.Senior Trinamool veterans who already have a hunch of what Mukul might have told CBI believe that he can't do any damage to the party , leave aside Mamata. They fear that Mukul has already complained against two Trinamool MPs and a Kolkatabased minister to the agency.
