KOLKATA: West Bengal CM MamataBanerjee will launch her campaign for next month’s panchayat elections on Monday from North 24-Parganas district. The area had recently witnessed rape and murder of a college girl and attacks on journalists by Trinamool workers.

“Mamata will address a public meeting at Deganga in North 24-Parganas on Monday,” senior TMC leader and party MP Mukul Roy told reporters on Friday. Banerjee will address 20 meetings in 14 districts that will go to polls during the first two phases on July 2 and 6.

Details about her campaign schedule have not yet been finalised but the CM will also campaign for her party candidates contesting the third and last round of polls on July 9.

A college student was raped and murdered near Barasat in North 24-Parganas early this week and relatives of the victims met the CM at Writers’ Buildings on Thursday. The relatives rejected the job offered by the CM and urged her to instead punish the murderers.
