KOLKATA: Mamata Banerjee’s brother Kartik will organise a rally at Sahid Minar ground on December 13. He runs an NGO called Kolkata Vivek, the stated aim of which is to persuade the Union government to declare January 23, the day Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was born, a national holiday.

“I have already written to the Prime Minister on behalf of our organisation and urged him to declare January 23 as a national holiday. I have invited Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Governor Keshri Nath Tripathi and Congress MLA Debaprasad Roy to attend our gathering on August 13,” Kartik said. He also claimed that more than one lakh will attend the gathering at Sahid Minar ground.

Trinamool Congress MP Sougata Roy is likely to attend. On December 1, Banerjee’s nephew Abhisekh held a rally at the same venue. But the CM skipped the gathering. Another member of the CM’s family holding a rally immediately has attracted the attention of political circles. They would be watching if the CM would attend the rally.
