The occasion was big. For the first time in 35 years, the state was changing guard with Mamata Banerjee taking oath as Chief Minister. "We are very happy that Mamata has come to power. I would expect her to restore peace in the state," Pritam Kaur, sister of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, said.
Viren Shah, ex governor of West Bengal and a steel baron, said : "I think parivartan should be implemented in all spheres of administration. Measures should be implemented for economic upliftment of the people."
Sam Pitroda, who came to see the change taking place, said: "The new government has to do a lot of work in many areas."
Anjan Chatterjee of Oh Calcutta and Mainland China, who came all the way from Mumbai to attend the ceremony said: "We used to hear that Bengal has no future. I think that the new Chief Minister should take the initiative to send the message that Bengal is indeed an industry-friendly state."
