Mamata Banerjee slams voter list deletions, TMC alleges ECI bias in favour of BJP

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that the names of genuine voters must not be deleted in the name of electoral roll revision and voters must not be harassed.

Banerjee also expressed surprise over reports that 1,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) had gone to New Delhi for Election Commission of India (ECI) training without the state being informed. "Why were we not aware of that training? The Chief Secretary should have been informed!" she said. "Please inform the Chief Secretary and us. You are making decisions on your own. No one should be deleted from the voter list."

Before leaving for New Delhi to attend Parliament's Monsoon session, Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee accused the ECI of favouring the BJP. "They are torturing Bengalis in the name of SIR. Yesterday in Bihar, a dog's name was used to issue a residential certificate, which was then used to generate a voter ID card. People's right to vote is being taken away while dogs are getting certificates," he said, alleging that this was aimed at giving the BJP an electoral advantage.


Echoing this on its official X handle, AITC wrote: "This entire incident makes it clear as day—the ECI is working as a BJP puppet to favour one party. This is shameful!"
