KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was unable to attend the National Council Meet of apex industry body CII due to the death of legendary actress Suchitra Sen.

In a brief address to attending CII members, Banerjee called up on the mobile phone of state industry and finance minister Amit Mitra who turned the speaker mode on, said Sen's death had left her in deep sorrow and she was not in the right frame of mind to attend the meet.

"Sen's death is a personal tragedy for me. Though I had planned to attend the meet, circumstances have forced me to cancel," the Chief Minister said.

Banerjee was present at the private hospital since morning where the actress passed away, till the last rites were over in the evening.
