Whether I die or live I will remove PM Modi from politics: Mamata Banerjee
NEW DELHI: Demanding rollback of demonetisation, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee pledged to remove Prime Minster Narendra Modi from politics. "Today, I am taking a pledge, whether I die or live I will remove PM Modi from Indian politics," she said while addressing a Trinamool Congress rally which was organised to protest demonetisation in Kolkata today.

Mamata also criticised the government for "acting like God" and said, "Bazaar, cinema, Jatra (theatre) - everything got affected, but he (the Prime Minister) didn’t care about common people."

"Most of the people in rural areas do not have bank accounts. How will they cope up with this situation?" Banerjee said after her protest march from College Square to Esplanade.

Continuing her tirade against Modi, Banerjee said she would fight till the end against the "anti-people" decision which has imposed an "undeclared financial emergency" in the country.

The countrywide strike today was 'called' by the opposition parties to protest demonetisation. The government's call to ban higher-denomination currency has invited sharp criticism from a united opposition.
