Mamata Banerjee Challenges Bhabanipur Poll Result in HC
Kolkata: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday filed an election petition before the Calcutta High Court, challenging the assembly poll result of the Bhabanipur constituency.

The former chief minister lost the Bhabanipur assembly seat to BJP's Suvendu Adhikari by a margin of 15,105 votes.

Banerjee went to the high court registry to "affirm" the petition challenging the result. She was accompanied by advocate and Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Bandopadhyay, MLA Kunal Ghosh and party leader Dola Sen. Banerjee was at the high court for a short time and left after submitting the petition.

Counting of votes for the West Bengal assembly elections was held on May 4. After BJP's resounding victory in the elections, Adhikari went on to become the first BJP chief minister of the state.

Banerjee had earlier visited the high court on May 14. She had gone there to personally argue in a case of post-poll violence. That time, the former CM had to face protests from a section of lawyers who had raised slogans of 'thief' against her.
