Mamata Banerjee is likely to join an October 10 protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar seeking CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s removal, while also seeking a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu.

Kolkata: Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday that she is likely to protest demanding the removal of Gyanesh Kumar as Chief Election Commissioner at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on October 10, but a final decision is yet to be taken by her. Meanwhile, expressing concern about Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, adding Prianka Gandhi was treated in “a wrong way,” Banerjee also said she has sought time from President Droupadi Murmu.

Banerjee, who was on her way to New Delhi, told medipersons at the NSC Bose International Airport, that to take part in the ongoing protests of the opposition INDIA bloc, Banerjee lashed out at the BJP and the Election Commission for the alleged SIR anomalies and electoral malpractices in Bengal.

Banerjee claimed that she was going to Delhi for Bengal and “for the people of the entire country. I also intend to approach the Honourable President of India and seek the signatures and support of leaders from political parties across the country, because these concerns go beyond individual parties and require the attention of political leaders at the national level,” she said.

“Rahul Gandhi is the Leader of the Opposition, and protests are taking place across the country, but what has happened here is equally concerning. I have seen that there have been a lot of atrocities across the country. Everyone has the right to take part in a movement and Priyanka was treated was also very wrong,” Banerjee pointed out.

Although festive season is on and everyone is busy with Puja celebrations, Mamata Banerjee said, “I still feel it is necessary to participate in the movement, because when people are raising their voices for an important cause, we must stand beside them and our absence at such a crucial moment would not send the right message.”

“We have maintained a relationship with them and have extended our support and any further decision regarding our participation will be taken later,” she added.

Slamming the election process, Banerjee said that no election has taken place yet like this. “Have you ever heard of anyone declaring before an election exactly how many votes they will win by?” Banerjee said, hinting at BJP. “This clearly raises questions about calculated voting, bogus voting, rigging and vote looting. Such practices cannot continue for long, and no one can remain in power indefinitely by looting votes.”Banerjee was referring to Rejinagar and Nandigram bypolls.
