Mamata Banerjee heads for Midnapore to Assess development work

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee left Kolkata on Friday for Midnapore.

KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee left Kolkata on Friday for Midnapore. She will hold a meeting with Trinamool Congress leaders of West Midnapore district on reaching there later in the evening. The chief minister will meet senior district officials on Saturday to take stock of the development work being carried out by her government at the economically backward district.

Banerjee will attend Chhatra Yuva Vivek Utsav at Midnapore College ground on Saturday. It is learnt that she will also take a guard of honour from the Jangalmahal youths who have got jobs in the state’s police department after her government came to power in May 2011. According to sources, the Trinamool chief is displeased with a number of recent developments in which local Trinamool factions were involved in clashes that led to death of one person in Keshpur.

On January 16, the chief minister will visit Digha in East Midnapore to kick off the Sea Festival at the coastal town. The tourism department is organising the festival which will be held at both Digha and Mandarmoni.
