“Manufacturing and other industries are flourishing in Spain. They have invited us there. Spain had visited Bengal in this year’s book fair and they were our partner in the International Book Fair.
Banerjee will participate in a three-day business summit in Spain. She has been accompanied by Chief Secretary H K Dwivedi and other senior state government officials and industry representatives. The state government intends to woo investments for Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) in Kolkata on November 21-22.
In Dubai, Banerjee will attend another business summit to attract investments to the state.
Banerjee flew for Dubai from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose international airport. She will reach Spain's capital Madrid on Wednesday. Banerjee has been accompanied by senior office-bearers of renowned Calcutta football clubs Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting.
Banerjee said former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly will join her team in Madrid. “When I am going to Spain, I will do something for the development of Bengal football.”
LoP Suvendu Adhikari slammed Banerjee and said that “she has made a Dubai transit point not for travelling to Spain but to ensure safety of her family’s money sent by her family members through hawala.”
Adhikari took to X and said, "Anyway going abroad for 11 days…However, 11 days of Dubai-Madrid etc. will not work with taxpayers' money, if nothing constructive is produced for West Bengal from your travel...”
