Mamata Banerjee calls for national iron-ore policy
KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said the central government should frame a national policy on iron-ore.

Banerjee said that since there is no iron-ore policy as of now she has asked for one and also requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to look into the same.

She was speaking at the inauguration of a new corporate office complex of Coal India, built at a cost of Rs 200 crore, at Rajarhat.

Taking a cue from the central government's policy of working together as a team, she called for working in unison and urged for framing a policy so that Bengal could get the precious mineral for development of the steel sector.

The steel sector is suffering a lot in terms of investment in the absence of iron-ore linkages from states like Jharkhand and Odisha.

Also present at the event, Minister of State for Coal, Power and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal requested Coal India to convert its present corporate office, a heritage property, into a coal museum.
