Speaking at a Jain community event here, Banerjee appealed to the Muslims to not fall for political provocations. She said, "Please remember that when 'Didi is here, she will protect you and your property'. So let us trust each and everybody. If we are together, we can win everything and conquer the world. Let's give this message to the world."
Talking about protests and violence over the Waqf Act in Murshidabad district on Tuesday, where several police vehicles were vandalised, Banerjee said: "See the situation in Bangladesh and take a lesson. It should not have been done. We have 33% minorities. What should we do? Drive them out? They were here even before independence and from the time of the British era. Those who are here, it is our duty to protect them."
Referring to the beauty of Jainism, the CM said "You (Jains) want unity of all religions. I saw that you have invited people from all religions, including Buddhist, Hindu and Sikh friends. This is a unique combination and that is India."
